SAPS Intake Updates – How to Apply to SAPS Traineeship 2025

The South African Police Service (SAPS) wishes to alert the public of the existence of bogus advertisements purporting to be from the SAPS recruiting interested persons to apply for police traineeship and other vacancies within the police on a website: https://www.saps.gov.za/careers/careers.php.

SAPS Application Details 2025

The South African Police Service (SAPS) offers a Traineeship Program aimed at training individuals to become competent police officials. The recruitment process for this year’s intake is in its final screening phase, with training scheduled to commence in the coming soon.

STRUCTURE OF THE BASIC POLICE DEVELOPMENT LEARNING PROGRAMME (BPDLP)

The duration of the Learning Programme will be 24 months, of which 12 months will be at the Academy and 12 months in the workplace.  It will consist of two phases at the academy and one phase at the workplace.

  • Phase One:  Academy (10 months)
    • The foundational phase – will mainly focus on acquiring the necessary knowledge and skills.
    • Practical application of knowledge and skills
  • Phase Two:  Workplace experience (12 months)
    • Workplace exposure at a station
  • Phase Three:  Academy (2 months)
    • Integrated assessments
When police trainees complete the training and are found competent, they are permanently enlisted in the South African Police Service as constables.

Payment and Benefits During the First 24 Months

A police trainee will receive the following payment and benefits during the first 24 months:

Phase 1: 10 Months at The SAPS Academy

  • R3 175,00 per month
  • Free meals and accommodation
  • POLMED medical aid – lower plan membership, no pension fund

Phase 2 and 3: 12 Months in The Workplace at A Station and Two Months of Integrated Assessment at The Academy

  • R 7 275,00 per month
  • Own meals and accommodation
  • POLMED medical aid – lower or higher plan membership, pension fund and all other benefits (Leave, allowances, etc)

Permanent Appointment After 24 Months:

  • R 10 307,00 per month
  • All benefits applicable to SAPS Act members

SAPS  Traineeship Entry Requirement

A candidate must comply with the following, basic enlistment requirements:

  • Be a South African citizen by birth
  • Be at least 25, but under 40 years of age, of which documentary proof must be furnished
  • Complete a health questionnaire, at his or her own cost, which is confirmed by a registered medical practitioner
  • Be medically, mentally and physically fit to perform duties
  • Be of good and sound character
  • Fit the psychometric profile and must successfully complete any other test that may be determined by the National Commissioner
  • Be in possession of at least a senior certificate (Grade 12) or must have successfully completed a SAQA-accredited NQF level 4 qualification, of which documentary proof must be provided
  • Be able to speak, read and write at least two official languages, of which one must be English
  • Allow his or her fingerprints and a DNA sample to be taken
  • Be prepared to undergo such training as may be determined by the National Commissioner
  • Be prepared to take the prescribed oath of office
  • Understand that his or her services may be terminated at the age of 60
  • Complete an assessment questionnaire
  • Be vetted or screened
  • Be employed and provide proof of employment
  • Provide proof of his or her residential address
  • Not have a criminal record or any criminal or departmental cases pending against him or her (all criminal or departmental cases must be declared)
  • Not have a tattoo that will be visible if the person wears a uniform
