Who Qualifies For NATED?
You can study a National Qualification (NATED) course if:
- You have a matric equivalent certificate.
- You have a matric certificate with a Bachelor’s Degree Pass.
- You have a matric certificate with a Diploma Pass.
- You have a matric certificate with a Higher Certificate Pass.
- You have a matric certificate with a National Senior Certificate Pass.
- You want to focus on career-based learning.

Updated NATED Courses Requirements
Each NATED course requires different application requirements.
If you are looking to study a legal or Educare NATED Course, you must have a matric certificate.
For any of the other NATED courses that are offered, you can have a specific equivalent certificate instead of a matric certificate.

Choosing a NATED Course
There are 7 different NATED courses that you can choose from. These include:
- Business Management Courses
- Educare Courses
- Financial Management Courses
- Human Resource Management Courses
- Legal Secretary Courses
- Management Assistant Courses
- Marketing Management Courses
Each one of these study areas are broken down into 3 National Certificates each. These courses then build upon each other until you can reach an N6 qualification.
National Accredited Technical Education Diploma (NATED) courses are made up of both the theoretical and practical elements of a subject to give students a well-rounded skill set.
These courses have been specially designed by the Department of Higher Education and Training and are well known by employers.
When to Use Your Matric Certificate
According to matric.co.za When looking at the requirements for NATED courses, you will either be required to have a matric certificate of an N4 equivalent certificate.
Some courses can be started with either, whilst others can only be applied for with a matric certificate.
Any NATED courses in Legal Secretary or Educare require a matric certificate to apply. You cannot apply for either of these above-mentioned courses with a qualification equivalent to matric (eg an N4 qualification).
