What Is the SANC?

SANC stands for South African Nursing Council. It is the body entrusted to set and maintain standards of nursing education and practice in the Republic of South Africa.  It is an autonomous, financially independent, statutory body, initially established by the Nursing Act, 1944 (Act No. 45 of 1944), and currently operating under the Nursing Act, 2005 (Act No. 33 of 2005).

How Long Is SANC Registration?

12 months. Every registration certificate issued by the Council is proof that the person to whom it is issued is registered in the capacity indicated on the certificate for 12 months from the date.

How Much Does It Cost to Study Nursing in South Africa?

COLLEGE FEES

Diplomas:

• Post Graduate – R6000 Per Annum

The annual fees for different categories of practitioners are provided in the table below:

REDUCTIONS IN ANNUAL FEES FOR AGE 60 AND OVER

The Council has resolved to introduce reduced fees for nurses 60 years of age and over as per the table below:

60 TO 64 YEARS OF AGE ON 1 JANUARY (25% REDUCTION)

To qualify for the discount amounts, practitioners may be required to submit a certified copy of their identity document to confirm their age.

Notes: 

The annual fees must be received by the SANC on or before 31 December.

The amounts in the tables above all include 15% VAT.

Can a Nurse Open a Clinic in South Africa?

There are currently no additional legislative requirements for a Registered Professional Nurse to establish a private practice, other than current registration with the SA Nursing Council.

What’s the SANC eRegister Portal?

eRegister Portal is primarily intended for use by employers or prospective employers who need to verify the registration status of an employee or prospective employee. Practitioners may also use eRegister to confirm their registration status.

What Do I Need to Use eRegister?

eRegister is a free-to-use application available to any Internet user.

You will need a computer (or another device) with a connection to the Internet.

Your computer/device must have a suitable web browser program such as Microsoft Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, etc. Most computers/devices that meet these requirements should be able to access eRegister without further adjustment.
